"A rare occurrence in the world of firefighting, Santa Barbara County is one of the few places in the nation where crews employ aerial water drops under cover of darkness thanks to night-vision goggles provided by the volunteer Santa Barbara firefighters Alliance. All told, pilots wearing the goggles were responsible for more than 100 much needed drops last night. 'Goodness knows how many more homes would have been destroyed had they not been up there flying through the night,' testified Brown."

Welcome
Each year the men and women of the Santa Barbara County and City Fire Departments respond to over 20,000 calls for service. These calls range from medical emergencies, car accidents, hazardous materials spills, search and rescue to large scale wildfires and building fires. Recent years have shown the dramatic impact that large scale wildfires - like the Zaca, Gap, and Tea Fires can have on our community.

The SBFA is a group of local citizen volunteers who have come together to assist our firefighters. Our 100% volunteer organization works hand in hand with the firefighters of the City and County of Santa Barbara to identify and fund critical equipment and program support. We have targeted innovative, cutting edge technical equipment not usually available through normal Fire Department budgeting channels. Using a strict appropriation process we work with “line” firefighters to identify equipment that furthers their mission to protect the people of Santa Barbara with great safety and effectiveness.

“If you are interested in supporting your local firefighters, I can’t think of a better organization than the Santa Barbara Firefighters Alliance.” Rob Heckman, President, Santa Barbara County Firefighters Association.

“The Santa Barbara Firefighters Alliance has proven to be an invaluable partner. When choosing a non-profit to assist your firefighters, you need look no further than the Alliance. We are very proud of our involvement with the Alliance.” Pat McElroy, Battalion Chief, Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
